These will match the other 50+ that I built over the past two years. We will provide the tables with finished edges and they will finish the gaming surface to match their terrain. Below is a pic from last year's tournament at Historicon 2008.

The next set are for The MechaniCon 2009, the convention our club is hosting. We will be building all new tables for the Warhammer 40,000 Grand Tournament as well as proper scenery for the 5th edition rules.

There will be pictures of the construction process coming in the next update.Tironumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13528686379832885971noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4991881883272793651.post-60733531720476987292009-07-02T15:42:00.003-04:002009-07-02T15:59:10.734-04:00News and ReviewThere has been so much going on in the past couple months, that the club blog has had to wait. Here are some much needed updates about the happenings around here.

Weekly Gaming
We have been able to keep our club members busy with gaming sessions. Lots of Munchkin, Zombies!, Starfarers of Catan, Carcasonne, and Flux on Board and Card Game nights. Also for the 40k gamers some smaller games as well as Ardboys practice.

The MechaniCon 2009
This has been the focus for most of our attention since April. We will be running a three day convention in November, with a Warhammer 40,000 Grand Tournament as the main event. By reaching out to the local community we have been able to put together a great team to organize and run the event. Tickets are now on sale for some events, other events are getting finalized, and our Sponsors are really helping out. Check out the website for full details and watch for updates!

http://www.themechanicon.com/

More club coverage will be coming soon. We have many photos of gaming nights, member's armies as well as reports to post.Tironumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13528686379832885971noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4991881883272793651.post-48819695597899740032009-04-03T15:19:00.002-04:002009-04-03T15:32:14.094-04:00US GT's CanceledI heard that Games Workshop's GT are now canceled. This is very disappointing to me. This is the second time that they have canceled the events well into the year (also in 2007 I believe it was).

In the early days the Grand Tournament was truly an event you must attend if you were crazy about the hobby. Just a chance to drool over the other fantastic models that clearly were far above the norm was reason enough to attend. Along with a great level of painting and modeling, was a real effort to make these events something special. There were guests of honor, special bitz ordering, and sometimes even a raffle to get a kit months before release. After a few years things started to go downhill, partly because of the added capacity needed and partly because of the effort put into running it. For example, I won 3rd best painted and the trophies for the 225 person tournament were laminated certificates! Not to mention the Lord of the Rings trophies were completely forgotten.

Now we get to this point, where there is a bad economy, everyone needs to do cutbacks, and the level of Independent Tournaments exceeds what we have seen in the past. I could care less what the reasoning behind it is, all I know is that it is time for me to get the folks I know together and start running our own in the North East. I've built the tables for other manufacturer's tournaments, and easily can handle the logistical planning. I know folks who can handle the web design, player networking, artists, and just about any other aspect we need covered.

I hope this prompts you to jump into organizing your own events as well. It has been a great run, but now with the likes of Adepticon and other high end venues, the times are changing. Get out and be a part of that change!Tironumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13528686379832885971noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4991881883272793651.post-85148025833863285672009-04-01T11:07:00.002-04:002009-04-01T11:14:15.938-04:00Plans for Baltimore Games DayFor Games Day, the club will be doing a 40k Apocalypse display. What I'd like to bring is the new 6' x 12' table, existing and new scenery pieces on it and Apocalypse Datasheets or Formations on display.

So far for the display we have:

Marines-
Space Marine Battle Company
Ancients Formation
Deathknell Formation
Linebreaker Squadrons

Guard-
Emperor's Hammer Formation
Baneblade

Navy-
Lightning Fighter
Thunderbolt

Orks-
Green Tide

Chaos-
Daemon Swarm
Plague of Zombies
Chaos Termi Formation

Tyranids-
Heirodule Formation
Harridan

Necrons-
Undying Legion
Shroudweaver War Cell
Doomsday Monolith Formation

Basically we set up the table similar to a game in play, do up some nice color cards describing the models and point costs, and chat with folks about getting your collections to this stage. There are no points totals to work with or anything like that, just displaying stuff from the Apocalypse books and the terrain.Tironumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13528686379832885971noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4991881883272793651.post-49191200124739308832009-03-02T01:38:00.003-05:002009-03-02T02:04:03.068-05:00We had a busy month in February. There was a 40k tournament at Showcase Comics, Granite Run. It was well run, with a big space for large gatherings. There were many very nicely done armies, and the players were great as well. I think everyone will agree that this is a must do when they are available.

We had a demo ran at the club to go along with the release of Munchkin Quest 2. It adds 5-6 player expansion and loads of new cards, including traps which are a cool addition.

Games Workshop's Games Day is only 2 months away and there has been work on Golden Demon entries. Hopefully we will get some pictures up soon of club member's work.

Some Blood Bowl gaming has been going on recently, and the practice should help for those folks heading to the Four Diamonds Cup 2009. The link for their site is in the Gaming Links section. Both the tabletop version and FUMBBL have been thrown in the mix and a possible new Dungeonbowl table is in the works.

We hope to get more updates up soon, including lots of photos of great miniatures.Tironumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13528686379832885971noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4991881883272793651.post-31688872721053925142009-01-26T23:54:00.003-05:002009-01-27T00:09:28.019-05:00A Few more UpdatesGot some time to do some updates, more on the way soon. For now we have a new calendar and a listing of club events and 40k based events at Showcase. If you would like to see other Showcase events listed here please drop a line. There will be events for other games like Warmachine, Warhammer Fantasy and more.Tironumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13528686379832885971noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4991881883272793651.post-22021057252835042872008-12-05T16:55:00.000-05:002008-12-05T16:56:42.135-05:00A long time coming...Finally, a long overdue component of our gaming club is here!
